    Why is Vitamin D needed?

Vitamin D contributes to normal growth and development in children, is necessary for normal bone structure, maintenance of normal teeth and the immune system.

Because it is not recommended to expose infants to sunlight and it may also be difficult to receive sufficient Vitamin D from a normal diet, Vitamin D supplements for infants and children may be required.

Puria® Vitamin D drops are suitable as a source of Vitamin D to assist in cases of Vitamin D deficiency or as an easy of way ensuring that your child is receiving regular Vitamin D.

If you are unsure if this supplement is right for your child, contact your medical health professional.

How much Vitamin D is required?

The individual amount of Vitamin D required can vary on an individual basis, and actual requirements will be based on recommendations of your health professional.

The minimum recommended Adequate Intake (AI) for Vitamin D is 200IU per day from 0 – 18 years1.  To ensure that Vitamin D intake meets the AI, and to help prevent incidences of deficiency, each drop of Puria® Vitamin D drops contains 400IU of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol 10mcg).

    • The Upper Limit for Vitamin D is 1,000IU per day for infants 0 – 12 months1.
    •
    • The Upper Level for Vitamin D is 3,200IU per day for children 1 – 18yrs1.

Keep out of reach of children, and contact your health professional if you have any concerns.

For further information regarding the importance and requirement for Vitamin D during infancy the New Zealand Ministry of Health has released a paper called Companion Statement on Vitamin D and Sun Exposure in Pregnancy and Infancy in New Zealand; - Ministry of Health, 2013

How much Puria® Vitamin D drops need to be taken?

Only 1 drop of Puria® Vitamin D drops is required daily.  Each drop of Puria® Vitamin D drops contains 400IU of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol 10mcg).

The bottle contains an in-built dropper that dispenses a single drop when the bottle is tipped up on a 45° angle.  Do not shake.  Allow a few seconds for the drop to form, as it may not come out immediately.

    Why only Vitamin D?

Generally Vitamin D is produced by the body from exposure to sunlight.  During winter, or if there are other factors that affect exposure to sunlight, it is unlikely that body will produce enough Vitamin D, which may lead to vitamin D deficiency.

Other Vitamins such as Vitamin A and C, appear in a variety of foods and drinks, and it is likely that there is sufficient intake of these vitamins from numerous sources in a balanced diet.

What are the other ingredients in Puria® Vitamin D drops?

Fractionated coconut oil, Emulsifier (macrogolglycerol hydroxysterate), Ethanol (2.9% w/w), Antioxidant (Vitamin E).

These ingredients ensure that the drops disperse easily into food and drinks.

Puria® Vitamin D drops do not contain sweeteners, colours, flavours or preservatives, and have no added gluten, dairy or yeast.

Do Puria® Vitamin D drops need to be refrigerated after opening?

No, Puria® Vitamin D drops do not need to be refrigerated after opening.  It is recommended that Puria® Vitamin D drops are stored below 25°C and used within 3 months of opening.

There is an expiry date printed on the side of the bottle.

How do I give Puria® Vitamin D drops?

Puria® Vitamin D Drops can be administered as a single drop directly to the child’s mouth or added to their food or drink.

How long will a bottle of Puria® Vitamin D drops last?

Each bottle of Puria® Vitamin D drops contains 90 drops, so at 1 drop daily, each bottle will last for 3 months.

Why is the bottle not filled to the top?

Puria® Vitamin D drops are packed in a standard 10mL bottle.  We have tested the product thoroughly to ensure that there are 90 drops, and that each drop delivers the recommended dosage, and to achieve this the bottle is filled to the optimal level (i.e. it is partly filled).

What if there is a reaction to taking Puria® Vitamin D Drops?

Puria® Vitamin D drops do not contain sweeteners, colours, flavours or preservatives, and have no added gluten, dairy or yeast, however in the unlikely event of an adverse reaction seek medical advice.

Why are Puria® Vitamin D drops made in New Zealand?

Puria® Vitamin D drops are manufactured at a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) Pharmaceutical Facility in New Zealand, under our watchful eye to ensure we can give you the best possible quality products for you and your child.
